Our wide range of capabilities center on the intersection of cyber and space, securing what matters for the warfighter.
We are crafting methods to increase the security posture of space assets by providing recommendation for a layered cyber defense architecture leveraging Defense in Depth as Mission Assurance Spacecraft (DiDaMAS).
Effective logging within the subsystems of a Space Vehicle (SV) is crucial for enabling operators to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot issues, while also enhancing the overall security posture of the space system. Resources such as the European Space Agency’s Space Shield and Aerospace Corporation’s SPARTA outline tactics, techniques, and procedures that can exploit known vulnerabilities in space vehicles and their supporting architecture. However, there is a gap in resources that specifically guide space-based organizations on how to be alerted when these types of attacks occur, particularly onboard an on-orbit space vehicle.
This product, developed by Stephenson Stellar Corporation, aims to serve as a guideline for what should be evaluated and logged within each space vehicle subsystem. This guide can be applied to improving the posture of operational SVs, but is most beneficial when used during the design phase. Since each SV will have unique designs and differing capabilities or payloads, this guideline is intended as a starting point for logging best practices that can enhance the SV’s ability to detect anomalous cyber activity. These guidelines should be considered (where applicable) and used to help space organizations define their overall computer network defense strategy and cyber protection measures for operational on-orbit space vehicles.
